John Davis emailed me on March 5th, 2020, with an invitation to participate in the second edition of Gravity Spells, a concert series and publication bringing together a range of Bay Area artists working in live music and projections. An invitation I would accept with enthusiasm. 2020, and 2021, had many other ideas.
Eventually, Gravity Spells II was rescheduled for May of 2022, and held at The Lab in San Francisco.

I was paired with Anna Geyer (pictured opposite). The concert on May 21st was our first meeting, and I had only a vague sense of the work she had brought for us. I had provided her with a few recordings close to the 21st that were more or less representative of what my performance ended up being, but I was without a real sense of what material Anna would be bringing beyond “some cyanotype loops,” which was just been enough for me. I was very comfortable with where my practices had led me, and continue to articulate sections of the wandering path I take through material, technique and inspiration, sometimes finding myself places I’ve already been, intentionally or not.

In the end, this was a beautiful collaboration, our work meeting just enough, touching without crowding. This was an ideal experience for me to bring to an audience, of any size, at any venue.

I could not have asked for a more satisfying experience as a collaborator. Thanks to Anna for bringing great work, and John for seeing this potential.
